Progressions - Vol. III |
|
Last
month, we looked at one way to connect ideas between two seemingly
unrelated chords, E-7 and DbMaj7 (from the progression below). This
time around, we'll look at a different way of creating cohesive
ideas between these two chords
E-7
| Db Maj7 | F Maj 7 | C-7 |
|
| Another
structure found within the E Dorian and Db Lydian scales, respectively
is the major triad with the second degree added (1235 pattern): |
 |
Within the E Dorian scale, this structure
can be built on the notes G, A and D: |
|
 |
| Within
the Db Lydian scale, it can be built on the notes Db, Eb, and Ab: |
 |
| By using
the 1235 patterns from each scale, a very effective 8th note line
can be created to connect these two chords, and resolve to the F Maj
7. Notice that the contour of the line varies in the first half of
each measure, and is the same in the second half of each measure. |
